BACKGROUND: Although it is possible to verify recent advances in terms of the legal confrontation of gender violence, this phenomenon continues to be present, and has intensified during the current pandemic period.
OBJECTIVE: Considering this scenario, this study aims to analyze the configuration of a public dimension of gender violence, taking it, therefore, as a political and even state violence, sustained by the structuring of a patriarchal power network based on the pedagogy of cruelty, which has, in the exposure of domination over the female body, and the imposition of control and violence over this body, the construction of the foundation that supports the structural and systemic violence of the liberal state of modernity.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Qualitative analysis of extensive and specialized bibliography. Implementation of the historical approach method and the inductive procedure method, in a qualitative character.
RESULTS: This research identified the existence of a public dimension of gender violence, in which violence and degradation of women are intertwined as a condition for the possibility and support of the advance of a political project of authoritarian and violent power. This dimension would authorize the violence that, with its inscription on women's bodies, circulates power marks of groups that communicate violently, under the sign of domination and of the transformation of people into merchandise.
CONCLUSIONS: This article seeks to reflect about the necessary perception of the centrality that violence against women's bodies attains in the strategies of conquest, implantation, and maintenance of an order based on authoritarian and sovereign domination over life, which most of the time go unnoticed under the private and individual logic under which the forms of manifestation of gender violence are daily understood.
