Abstract

We can assume that authors in the legal field who are committed to seeking quality in their articles want to reward their efforts by publishing in reputable, well-indexed journals that are capable of giving international visibility to their thinking. However, the reputation of a good journal tends to increase its demand, increasing its rejection rate. Therefore, how should we proceed to qualify our submissions, increasing their chances of approval in strategic journals? And how can we reduce the related risks of rejection? To make these answers feasible, we redefined the initial question, limiting the scope of our investigations to the context of a Brazilian journal in the area of Law, currently indexed in Scopus and classified in the A1 stratum of the CAPES Qualis Program. The journal used as the corpus of the research is published in an open access portal and requires submissions to be subject to at least one PhD among the responsible co-authors. The articles previously selected by the editorial team, in desk review, are sent to external reviewers so that they can be evaluated by the double-blind review system. Based on the set of evaluation forms used over a three-year period, we conducted quantitative research, with a statistical model, random sampling and data extrapolation, seeking to identify which variables were relevant for the approval and publication of manuscripts submitted to the journal under study.
