This study aims to analyze the Catalan procés and their presentation in the newspapers under analysis. Our objective is to investigate how the catalan cause is legitimized or delegitimized, in each newspaper and the relevance and coverage that it gives. Thus, the arguments they use and the news frames of each medium. With the method of quantitative analysis we investigated the importance that the media have had in their treatment about Catalonia. Besides, studying the discourses, subjects, actions and sources that formed the different news.
The main hypothesis is that the geographical factor plays a fundamental role in the way the media position themselves with respect to the catalan conflict. In other words, the state-run newspapers may be opposed to the consultation and those at the Catalan level have been presented in favor of the consultation. While regionals news are in the middle of both trends.
